About Windows File and Folder Backup
BDRSuite offers a comprehensive solution for protecting Windows files and folders with features like agentless backups, incremental backup strategies, and flexible scheduling. It supports granular recovery, secure storage across local, remote, and cloud destinations, and centralized management, ensuring efficient data protection and seamless recovery operations.
Getting Started
Step 1: Planning
Required Components:
BDRSuite Backup Server
Windows Server / Endpoint
System Requirements (Backup Server): Windows Server 2012 R2 Core (Standard or Datacenter) & above. To learn more, refer to the System Requirements.
Supported Platforms (Windows File and Folder Source):Windows Server 2012 and above. To learn more, refer to the Supported Platforms.
BDRSuite Backup Server is the central management component for configuring, scheduling, managing backups and recovery across virtual, physical, cloud, and SaaS environments. This server has to be installed and hosted on a dedicated machine.
After installation, access the server via http://<IP Address>:6060 or http://localhost:6060.

Configuring Windows File and Folder Backup & Recovery
Step 1: Creating a Storage Repository
BDRSuite supports on-premise storage options and remote solutions, including DAS, NAS, SAN. You can navigate to the Infrastructure -> Backup Repository tab choose Block Storage. Refer to Block Storage Repository to learn more.

BDRSuite also supports public cloud services like Amazon S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud, and S3-compatible platforms such as Wasabi, MinIO, and Backblaze. You can navigate to the Infrastructure -> Backup Repository tab choose Object Storage. Refer to Object Storage Repository to learn more.
Step 2: Adding Windows File and Folder Backup Sources
To configure backups and restores, the Windows machine hosting the files and folders must be added to the BDRSuite Backup Server. Navigate to Data Source -> Servers & Endpoints -> Add host click on Add Windows, and enter the required credentials to integrate the Windows source. Step 3: Configuring Windows File and Folder Backups
To configure and manage Windows file and folder backups within the BDRSuite Backup Server, follow the steps to set up backup jobs, schedule them, manage retention policies, and ensure effective data protection. Navigate to Backup -> Configure Backup -> Windows -> File and Folder
Steps to Configure Windows File and Folder Backup
Define a unique name for the backup job and select the repository to store the backups.
Choose the Windows machine and the specific files or folders to be backed up.
Exclude specific files or folders from the backup job if required.
Set the schedule for incremental and full backups based on your requirements.
Define retention policies and enable encryption for secure backups
Once saved, the backup will run automatically according to the defined schedule.
Step 4: Recovering Windows File and Folder Backups
To perform recovery operations for Windows file and folder backup jobs, follow the steps outlined below. Navigate to Recovery -> Restore Backup Data and click on the Restore button next to the respective Windows file and folder backup job you wish to restore.
Windows File and Folder Recovery (File Level Recovery)
Choose the Windows machine or share from which you want to restore files/folders.
Select the Restore type (File Level Restore).
Choose the Restore Point or timestamp for the restoration.
Specify the restore details and initiate the restore process.
In BDRSuite Backup Server, managing Windows file and folder backup jobs involves navigating to Backup -> List Backup Jobs, where you can perform actions like searching, scheduling, and editing backup jobs. You can also suspend, resume, or abort jobs, adjust schedules, and generate job reports. For more information, refer to Managing Backup Jobs.
Step 6: Reporting & Notification
The Reports section provides insights on automatically generated reports for Windows file and folder backups in BDRSuite Backup Server, including backup and recovery status, job summaries, and error logs. It also explains how notifications can be configured to inform users about the status of backup operations and any issues that arise. Secondary Copy for Windows file and folders
Secondary Copy - Offsite Copy
The Offsite Copy page provides instructions on configuring Offsite Copy/Disaster Recovery (DR) in BDRSuite Backup Server, where backup data is replicated to a disaster recovery (DR) server in an offsite location for disaster recovery purposes. It explains how to set up offsite copy jobs for Windows file and folder backups, allowing backup data to be securely stored in a remote location, ensuring data availability and business continuity in case of site failure.
Tape Archiving in BDRSuite allows you to securely archive your backups to tape storage for long-term retention and compliance purposes. To configure a Tape Archive for Windows file and folder backups, navigate to Secondary Copy -> Tape Archive -> Tape Infrastructure. You can store the backup data on your preferred tape device and retrieve it whenever needed.
