Quick Start Guide for Google Workpace Backup & Recovery

About Google Workspace Backup

BDRSuite provides a comprehensive solution for protecting Google Workspace data, including Gmail, Drive, Calendar, and Contacts. It supports automated incremental backups, advanced search for granular recovery, and secure storage options across local, remote, and cloud destinations, all managed through a centralized console for seamless data protection and recovery.

Getting Started

Step 1: Planning

Required Components:

  1. BDRSuite Backup Server
  2. Google Workspace Account

System Requirements (Backup Server): Windows Server 2012 R2 Core (Standard or Datacenter) & above. To learn more, refer to the System Requirements.

Supported Platform (Google Workspace): Google Workspace domains with admin access. To learn more, refer to the Supported Platforms.

Port Configuration: Ensure the necessary ports are configured for communication. To learn more, refer to the Port Configuration.

Step 2: Deploying Backup Server

BDRSuite Backup Server is the central management component for configuring, scheduling, managing backups and recovery across virtual, physical, cloud, and SaaS environments. This server has to be installed and hosted on a dedicated machine.

Installation Options:

After installation, access the server via http://<IP Address>:6060 or http://localhost:6060

Configuring Google Workpsace Backup & Recovery

Step 1: Creating a Storage Repository

  1. BDRSuite supports on-premise storage options and remote solutions, including DAS, NAS, SAN. You can navigate to the Infrastructure -> Backup Repository tab choose Block Storage. Refer to Block Storage Repository to learn more.

  1. BDRSuite also supports public cloud services like Amazon S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud, and S3-compatible platforms such as Wasabi, MinIO, and Backblaze. You can navigate to the Infrastructure -> Backup Repository tab choose Object Storage. Refer to Object Storage Repository to learn more.

Step 2: Adding Google Workspace Backup Sources

To configure backups and restores, the Google Workspace domain must be added to the BDRSuite Backup Server. Navigate to SaaS Applications -> Data Source ->Google Workspace Organization, click on Add Google Workspace Organization, and authenticate with the required admin credentials to integrate the Google Workspace source.

Step 3: Configuring Google Workspace Backups

To configure and manage Google Workspace backups within the BDRSuite Backup Server, follow these steps to set up backup jobs, schedule them, manage retention policies, and ensure comprehensive data protection. Navigate to SaaS Applications -> Backup -> Configure Backup -> Google Workspace.

Steps to Configure Google Workspace Backup

  1. Define a unique name for the backup job and choose the repository to store the backups.
  2. Select the Google Workspace account and the specific services (Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Contacts) to be backed up.
  3. Exclude specific mailbox, folders if needed.
  4. Choose filter preference for the Google Drive files.
  5. Set the schedule for incremental backups based on your organizational needs.
  6. Define retention policies and review the backup configuration.
  7. Save the job, and the backup will run automatically as per the defined schedule.

Step 4: Recovering Google Workspace Backups

To perform recovery operations for Google Workspace backup jobs, follow these steps using the BDRSuite Backup Server. Navigate to Recovery -> Restore Backup Data and click on the Restore button alongside the respective Google Workspace backup job you wish to restore.

Google Workspace Recovery Steps

  1. Select the Restore Type.
  2. Choose the Domain to Restore.
  3. Select Restore Point or Timestamp.
  4. Select the Restore Data.
  5. Specify Restore Details and Initiate Restore.

Step 5: Managing Google Workspace Backups

In BDRSuite Backup Server, managing Google Workspace backup jobs involves navigating to Backup -> List Backup Jobs, where you can perform actions like searching, scheduling, and editing backup jobs. You can also suspend, resume, or abort jobs, adjust schedules, and generate job reports. For more information, refer to Managing Backup Jobs.

Step 6: Reporting & Notification

The Reports section provides insights on automatically generated reports for Google Workspace backups in BDRSuite Backup Server, including backup and recovery status, job summaries, and error logs. It also explains how notifications can be configured to inform users about the status of Google Workspace backup operations and any issues that arise. The Offsite Copy page provides instructions on configuring Offsite Copy/Disaster Recovery (DR) in BDRSuite Backup Server, where backup data is replicated to a DR server in an offsite location for disaster recovery purposes.
