Getting Started with BDRCloud

The BDRCloud Getting Started Guide provides a comprehensive walkthrough of the backup and recovery setup process within BDRCloud. Covering all BDRCloud features and configurations, this guide helps users seamlessly set up, manage, and optimize their cloud-based data protection environment. 

BDRCloud is a cloud-hosted backup solution designed to provide secure, scalable, and globally accessible data protection. To start using BDRCloud, you need to have a BDRCloud account.

Creating BDRCloud Account

To create your BDRCloud account, follow these steps:
  1. Go to BDRCloud Website by entering the following URL in the browser; https://www.bdrcloud.com/ 
  2. Click on 'Sign up to BDRCloud' or 'Start Free Trial'.
  3. If you are a new BDRCloud user, click on the 'Sign up' option.
  4. Complete the required information on the registration form.
  5. Click 'Register' to create your BDRCloud account.
  6. You will receive an email to set up BDRCloud account password. Complete this step and click on 'Access my account' option.

Log in to the BDRCloud Account  

  1. Enter the following URL in your browser: https://backup.bdrcloud.com/
  2. Enter the email ID that you provided at the time of registration and the password you created and login to your BDRCloud Account.
  3. Once you log in to your BDRCloud account, you can set up Backup Repositories(If you have chosen 'Bring your own storage' option), configure Backups and perform Restores. All this from a globally accessible centralized management console.

Step 1: Setting up Storage Repository

You have two flexible storage options for your backup data;
1. BDRCloud Storage: BDRCloud hosted cloud storage with a 100GB free trial for 30 days. BDRCloud is available in various regions and your backup data will be stored in your closest BDRCloud location. 
Notes
Note: If you are choosing the BDRCloud Storage option then you can skip the 'setting up backup repository' step. Additionally, you’ll receive a free 100 GB BDRCloud storage, as a trial for 30 days. 
2. Bring Your Own Storage: Store your data locally or on your own cloud platforms.
  1. Block Storage - This option allows you to store backup data locally on devices like DAS, NAS, SAN, etc. You can navigate to the Infrastructure -> Backup Repository tab choose Block Storage. Refer to Block Storage Repository to learn more.

  1. Object Storage - This option allows you to utilize cloud platforms such as Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud to store your backup data. Additionally, BDRCloud supports various S3-compatible object storage solutions, for example, Wasabi, Backblaze, MinIO, and many others. You can navigate to the Infrastructure -> Backup Repository tab choose Object Storage. Refer to Object Storage Repository to learn more.

Step 2: Adding Data Sources

To configure backups and restores, the backup source must be added to the BDRCloud console. 

Adding Servers and endpoints as Backup Sources

a. Adding Windows Backup Source ( File and Folder & Disk Image Backups )
Navigate to Data Source -> Servers & Endpoints -> Add host and click on Add Windows, and enter the required credentials to integrate the Windows source. For detailed steps, refer to the Adding Windows File and Folder Backup Sources.

b. Adding Linux File and Folder Backup Sources ( File and Folder )
To configure backups and restores, the Linux machine hosting the files and folders must be added to the BDRCloud console. Navigate to Data Source -> Servers & Endpoints -> Add Host, click on Add Linux, and enter the required credentials to integrate the Linux source.

Notes
Note: BDRCloud currently supports disk image and file & folder-level backup and recovery for Windows servers & endpoints, and file & folder-level backup and recovery for Linux servers & endpoints.

Step 3: Backup and Recovery

File & Folder Backup and Recovery

1. Windows File & Folder Backup and Recovery
a. Configuration
To configure and manage Windows file and folder backups within the BDRCloud console, follow the steps to set up backup jobs, schedule them, manage retention policies, and ensure effective data protection. Navigate to Backup -> Configure Backup -> Windows -> File and Folder.
Steps to Configure Windows File and Folder Backup
  1. Define a unique name for the backup job and select the repository to store the backups.
  2. Choose the Windows machine and the specific files or folders to be backed up.
  3. Exclude specific files or folders from the backup job if required.
  4. Set the schedule for incremental and full backups based on your requirements.
  5. Define retention policies and enable encryption for secure backups
  6. Once saved, the backup will run automatically according to the defined schedule.
b. Recovery
To perform recovery operations for Windows file and folder backup jobs, follow the steps outlined below. Navigate to Recovery -> Restore Backup Data and click on the Restore button next to the respective Windows file and folder backup job you wish to restore.
Steps to perform Windows File and Folder Recovery (File Level Recovery)
  1. Choose the Windows machine or share from which you want to restore files/folders.
  2. Select the Restore type (File Level Restore).
  3. Choose the Restore Point or timestamp for the restoration.
  4. Specify the restore details and initiate the restore process.

2. Linux File & Folder Backup and Recovery
a. Configuration
To configure and manage Linux file and folder backups within the BDRSuite Backup Server, follow the steps to set up backup jobs, schedule them, manage retention policies, and ensure effective data protection. Navigate to Backup -> Configure Backup -> Linux.
Steps to Configure Linux File and Folder Backup
  1. Define a unique name for the backup job and select the repository to store the backups.
  2. Choose the Linux machine and the specific files or folders to be backed up.
  3. Exclude specific files or folders from the backup job if required.
  4. Set the schedule for incremental and full backups based on your requirements.
  5. Define retention policies and enable encryption for secure backups.
  6. Once saved, the backup will run automatically according to the defined schedule.
b. Recovery

Disk Image Backup and Recovery

1. Windows Disk Image Backup and Recovery
a. Configuration
To configure and manage Windows Disk/Image backups within the BDRCloud console, follow the steps to set up backup jobs, schedule them, manage retention policies, and ensure effective data protection. Navigate to the Backup -> Configure Backup -> Windows ->Disk Image.
Steps to configure Windows Disk/Image Backup
  1. Specify a backup job name & select the backup repository
  2. Select Windows host for backup
  3. Choose the disks/Volumes you wish to backup
  4. Configure guest processing settings
  5. Schedule when you want backups to run
  6. Configure retention and encryption settings
  7. Save the backup job. The backup will run as per schedule
  8. You can centrally manage and monitor backups
b. Recovery (Download, File Level Recovery and Bare Metal Recovery)
To perform recovery operations for Windows Disk/Image backup jobs, follow the steps outlined. Navigate to Recovery -> Restore Backup Data and click on the Restore button alongside the respective Windows Disk/Image backup job you wish to restore.
Steps to perform Windows Disk/Image Recovery
  1. Choose the Windows Host from which you want to restore.
  2. Select the Restore type.
  3. Select Restore Point or timestamp to restore
  4. Specify the restore details and initiate the restore
