Restore Group/Shared Mailbox

The Restore Group/Shared Mailbox feature allows administrators to recover emails and data from shared or group mailboxes, ensuring the restoration of essential communication and collaboration records. This feature helps maintain business continuity by quickly restoring access to shared mailbox content used by teams or departments.

Step 1: Select Backup Job

To select the backup job you want to restore, navigate to Recovery tab where all the backup jobs configured for the Microsoft 365 will be listed. Click on the Restore icon of the respective Microsoft 365 backup job to proceed.

Step 2: Choose Restore Type

Restore Group/Shared Mailbox

User Mailbox, Group/Shared Mailbox,  SharePoint Sites and Teams are the four different types of granular restores supported in the BDRSuite Backup for Microsoft 365. In this case, choose the Restore Type as  Restore Group/Shared Mailbox to proceed.

Step 3: Domain Selection

All the domains added will be displayed here out of which one can be selected to continue the restore process.

Step 4: Restore Version

The restore version is created based on the end time of the backup (i.e. the date and time when the backup process scheduled is completed), this is named recovery points. The full backup and incremental backup time-stamps are listed with the latest backup version as a parent node and the old backup version further sub-nodes. You can fall back to the required time-stamp whenever needed to recover the backed-up data.

Time Range

Select the time range or date range by clicking on the drop down menu under the Time Range option. The drop-down menu will typically display a list of preset time ranges, such as “Last 24 hours,” “Last 1 Week,” or “Last 1 Month.” The user can select one of these options to quickly choose a time range, or they can select a date range to specify the start and end dates.

Restore Point

As per the range chosen the restore points/time stamps that falls within that time period will be listed and can be selected from the drop down menu under the Restore Point option.  Time stamps of the Full – full backup, Incr – incremental backup and the R- Incr –  retry backup (Incremental ) will be used to denote the respective time stamp. Choose the restore point to proceed.

Step 5: Group/Shared Mailbox Granular Recovery

The groups that have been backed up will be listed when clicked on the drop down icon. Choose the one that has to be recovered.

Choose Restore Data

The Group OneDrive can be  chosen as the restore data.
Restore Group OneDrive: Restore entire group OneDrive or only the selected folder(s)/file(s). The folders can be expanded down to subfolders as well and data can be chosen for restore. You can also see the selected folders and subfolders in the breadcrumb view.
When you access the File/Folder search/filter option, it will lead you to a page where you can personalize your filtering criteria. You have the flexibility to choose a specific folder, filter by file/folder name, last modified time, or size of the File/folder.

Note: Only Group OneDrive Backup and Restore is currently supported for Group Mailbox in the BDRSuite Backup for Microsoft 365 due to API limitations.

Step 6: Restore Options

Restore Group OneDrive

There are three different types of restore targets that can be chosen for Group/Shared Mailbox. You can choose to restore the data to the same user mailbox or to a different user mailbox or to a custom location.
Choose Restore Options
1. Restore to the Same User Mailbox: This option will restore the backup data to the same user.
2. Restore to Different User Mailbox: This option will let you select the user from the list and restore the backup data to the selected user.
Select Restore Target:  Select the target mailbox to restore the backup data.
3. Restore to a custom location: Restore Location: Choose the location where you want your data to be restored.
Restore Description: Enter a restore description for future reference.

Step 7: Review

This page will summaries the configuration you have chosen for restore which can be reviewed and the recovery can be initiated.
