SharePoint Backup Error - Unable To List Site Collections

SharePoint Backup Error - Unable To List Site Collections

KB ID: 81
Issue:
When using BDRSuite Client for SharePoint backup, you may encounter an error that prevents the listing of site collections. This issue can be caused by various factors, and the following solutions provide guidance to resolve each possible cause.
Cause 1:
The Vembu client is unable to retrieve the list of site collections configured for backup under the web applications.
Solution 1:
1. Access the SharePoint Central Administration portal.
2. Verify if at least one site collection is available under each of the web applications configured for backup.
3. If no site collections are found under any of the web applications, you must create or configure them to proceed with successful backups.
Cause 2:
No valid site collections are discovered within the web applications configured for backup.
Solution 2:
1. Ensure that all site collections within your web applications are accessible and intact via a web browser.
2. Confirm that there are valid site collections present under each web application.
3. If no valid site collections are found under any web application, take the necessary steps to create or restore them to enable successful backups.
Cause 3:
The STSADM.EXE utility tool, which is utilized by the Vembu client for SharePoint site backups, is not located in its default directory. The default locations for STSADM.EXE are as follows:
  1. For WSS2.0/SPS2003 -> C:/Program Files/Common Files/Microsoft Shared/web server extensions/60/BIN
  2. For WSS3.0/MOSS2007 -> C:/Program Files/Common Files/Microsoft Shared/web server extensions/12/BIN
Solution 3:
1. Access the client web-console and navigate to the "Administration" menu.
2. Select "Advanced Options" and then proceed to the "SharePoint Settings" page.
3. Locate the "STSADM Tool Path [ STSADM.exe ]" textbox and confirm the presence of STSADM.EXE in the specified location.
4. If STSADM.EXE is not found in the specified location, search for it on your computer.
5. Once you locate the file, specify its location in the "STSADM Tool Path [ STSADM.exe ]" textbox.
6. Save the configuration to ensure that STSADM.EXE is accessible for SharePoint backups.
