High upload speeds during backup processes can consume excessive network bandwidth, potentially affecting the performance of other network-dependent applications and services. By throttling the S3 upload speed on the BDRSuite Backup Server, administrators can ensure more balanced and efficient use of network resources.
1. Open Group Policy Editor
- Go to the Start menu, search for "edit group policy," and select it.
2. Navigate to QoS Policies
- Go to `Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Policy-based QoS`.
3. Create a New QoS Policy
- Right-click on "Policy-based QoS" and select "Create new policy."
4. Policy Settings
- Enter "VembuBDR.exe" as the policy name.
- Uncheck "Specify DSCP value."
- Check "Specify outbound throttle rate" and provide the desired throttle rate for bandwidth throttling.
- Click "Next."
5. Specify Application
- In the next window, check "Only applications with this executable name."
- Enter "VembuBDR.exe" and click "Next."
6. IP Address Configuration
- In "Specify source and destination IP address," leave the settings unchanged.
- Click "Next."
7. Port Configuration
- In "Specify the protocol and port numbers":
- Under "Specify the source port number," select "From any source port."
- Click "Finish."
By configuring Group Policy (GPO) on the BDRServer machine, you can effectively throttle the upload speed, ensuring balanced network usage.
