How to Add a Backup Proxy for VMware Backup in BDRSuite

KB ID: 115206

Overview

A Backup Proxy in BDRSuite is an optional component that enhances VMware backup performance by reducing the load on the Backup Server. It acts as an intermediary between the Backup Server and VMware hosts, handling tasks such as retrieving VM data and sending it to the backup repository. Deploying a Backup Proxy offers benefits such as LAN-free data transfer in HotAdd mode, which bypasses the LAN and improves efficiency.

Backup Proxy communicates over Port 3204, so ensure your firewall rules allow traffic on this port.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the BDRSuite Backup Server Console.
  • A Windows VM with access to the target VMware hosts to serve as the Backup Proxy.
  • Ensure Port 32004 is open in the firewall for the Backup Proxy.
