Vembu ISO Boot via HDD for BDRSuite

Step 1 - Configuring Source Machine Backup:
Prerequisite:
Source Machine - The machine to be backed up.
Configuration Procedure:
1. Install Vembu BDR Server or Vembu ImageBackup (Standalone Client) on the source machine.
2. Configure the volumes for backup, including OS and System Reserved partitions for successful booting. Optionally, configure other partitions based on user requirements.
3. After successful backup, proceed with the restore process in Vembu BDR Server and choose to download as VHD.
4. The restored location will have an SBC file associated with the downloaded VHD, and both files are required for the ISO Boot Process.
Step 2 - Creating Vembu Recovery Image:
Create a Vembu Recovery Image with Vembu’s Recovery CD builder (Reference link).
Step 3 - Writing ISO in Hard Disk:
Prerequisites:
  1. Hardware: External hard disk drive adapter (SATA to USB converter)
  2. Application: PowerISO
Procedure:
1. Install PowerISO on a physical machine with administrative privileges.
2. Attach the hard disk to a physical machine (PowerISO installed machine) using an External hard disk drive adapter.

3. Open PowerISO application and go to Tools → Create Bootable USB Drive.
4. Choose the following options under 'Create Bootable USB Drive' Dialog Box:
  1. Source Image File: Select the created Image File.
  2. Destination USB Drive: Select the External Hard Disk connected via USB.
  3. Write Method: USB - HDD (Choose file system NTFS)


5. Click ‘Start’ to begin the burning process.
6. Wait for the ISO write process to complete and proceed to copy VHD & SBC files.
Step 4 - Copying Restored VHD & SBC Files:
1. Open ‘Disk Management’ and create an additional partition in the External Hard Disk using the Shrink option.
2. Ensure the created partition has enough space to copy the restored files.
3. Copy the restored VHD & SBC files into the newly created partition.
Step 5 - Verifying Boot Status:
1. Attach the External Hard Disk to the RAW machine you want to restore.
2. Power ON the machine and enter BIOS Setup using F9 keys.
3. Choose Boot Option or Boot Priority to ‘USB Hard Drive’ as the first.

4. Save the settings, and the machine will restart booting via External Hard Disk.
5. Verify that the booted window appears with ‘Vembu BDR Recovery Console.’

Step 6 - Restoring Target Machine:
1. Proceed with ‘Next’ in Vembu BDR Recovery Console.
2. Select ‘Recover entire Disk or a Partition’ under ‘Select a task’ and proceed to ‘Next.’

3. In the Recovery Page, browse and select:
  1. The recovered VHD under the file you need to recover.
  2. The recovered SBC file for the backup configuration file.

4. Under 'Recover entire Disk or Partition' page, choose between raw disks of the target machine for restore.
5. Click ‘Next’ to initiate the restore and wait for it to complete.

Once the restore completes, remove the external hard disk and try booting the target machine. It should boot with the source machine setup as chosen and log in successfully.
