Upgrading Hyper-V Integration Service for Hyper-V VMs

Upgrading Hyper-V Integration Service for Hyper-V VMs

KB ID: 115031
Cause:
Issues may arise while assigning network details for recovered VMs from Hyper-V Backup if the Hyper-V Integration Service is not up-to-date.
Solution:
To ensure that the Guest VMs to be backed up have the latest version of Hyper-V Integration Service, follow these steps before configuring a backup job:
1. Open the Hyper-V Guest VM Console.
2. Navigate to the Menu Bar on the Virtual Machine Console.
3. Click on the "Action" option in the Menu Bar.
4. In the "Action" options, select the last action: "Insert Integration Services Setup Disk."
5. A DVD drive will be inserted, and a prompt window will appear, asking to "Install Hyper-V Integration Services." Click on the "Install Hyper-V Integration Services" option.
6. A prompt window will display the current version of Hyper-V Integration Services. If it is not up-to-date, click 'Yes' to upgrade the Integration Services to the latest version.
7. If the current version is already up-to-date, the prompt window will show "This computer is already running the current version of Integration Services."
Note: Starting from Windows Server 2016 (or Windows 10) onwards, Microsoft performs automatic updates of the Hyper-V integration components within the guest OS via Windows Update. After a successful Windows update, it is recommended to enable the 'Guest services' option for individual virtual machines that need to be backed up.
