Troubleshooting: VM Not Found on ESXi Host in BDRSuite Backup Server/BDRSuite Client

KB ID: 105002
Summary:
This knowledge base article addresses the issue of a selected VM not being found on the ESXi host within BDRSuite Backup Server/BDRSuite Client. The error may arise due to various causes, such as invalid ESXi/vCenter Server credentials, deletion of the backed-up VM, unavailability of a VM for 'Disk Level Recovery,' and connectivity issues.
Causes and Solutions:
Cause 1: Invalid ESXi/vCenter Server Credentials
Ensure the ESXi/vCenter Server credentials are accurate. If credentials are changed after saving the host, update them in the BDRSuite Server settings.
Cause 2: Deleted/Removed VM Configured for Backup
Confirm the selected VM exists on the target host. If the VM is deleted/removed from the ESXi/vCenter Server, backups will fail.
To resolve, edit the corresponding backup job:
  1. Log in to the BDRSuite Backup Server.
  2. Navigate to Backup -> List Backup Jobs.
  3. Click the 'Edit' icon under the 'Actions' column for the relevant backup job.
For BDRSuite v5.3 and above:
  1. Refresh the host on the Host/VM Selection page by clicking the "+" icon to expand the host. This action auto-refreshes the list of available VMs. Save the backup configuration.
For BDRSuite v5.2 and below:
  1. Manually remove VMs on the Host/VM Selection page by clicking the "+" icon to expand the host. Then save the backup configuration.
  2. Backup data from deleted VMs is retained based on configured retention policies.
Cause 3: Unavailable VM for Disk Level Recovery
Ensure the selected VM intended for attaching backed-up disks is present on the target host.
Cause 4: Connectivity Issue
  1. Verify the accuracy of the target ESXi/vCenter Server's IP address.
  2. Confirm the target host's accessibility/connection through the designated port.
By addressing the causes and following the recommended solutions, users can effectively resolve the issue of VMs not being found on the ESXi host within BDRSuite Backup Server/BDRSuite Client. This troubleshooting guide ensures a smoother backup and recovery process.
