Alert: Issue with IP Address Retrieval or Application-Aware Writer Status Analysis
KB ID: 104060
Description:
This Knowledge Base article addresses an alert that occurs when there are problems encountered while attempting to fetch the IP address of a Virtual Machine (VM) during AppAware verification. Additionally, this alert may also indicate issues in analyzing the status of the Application-Aware Writer. The article provides information about the cause of the alert and offers solutions to resolve it.
Cause:
This alert is triggered when the BDR (Backup and Disaster Recovery) server is unable to retrieve the IP address of a Guest VM configured for an AppAware backup. This issue can arise due to restricted folder/file permissions for the AppAware folder within the C:\Windows directory.
Solution:
To address this alert, follow the steps outlined below:
1. Check IP Address Configuration:
Ensure that the IP address is properly configured for the Guest VM for which the AppAware backup has been scheduled.
2. Configure Windows Firewall Exception:
If the Windows Firewall is enabled on the guest machine, follow these steps to add a Windows Firewall exception using the Group Policy Object Editor:
- Launch the Group Policy Object Editor snap-in (gpedit.msc) to edit the GPO managing Windows Firewall settings.
- Navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network -> Network Connections -> Windows Firewall.
- Open the appropriate profile (Domain Profile or Standard Profile).
- Enable the "Allow inbound remote administration exception" setting.
3. Check Folder Permissions:
Verify the folder permissions for the AppAware folder located in C:\Windows\Appaware. If permissions are restricted, grant read and write access permissions to the folder. Retry the backup after making these changes.
4. Contact BDRSuite Support:
If the issue persists despite attempting the above steps, please reach out to BDRSuite Support for further assistance.
This article provides guidance on identifying and resolving the problems related to IP address retrieval and Application-Aware Writer status analysis during AppAware verification. Following the provided solutions can help ensure successful AppAware backups and address any associated issues.
