Cause:
This issue can arise when the Exchange database file is loaded with an incorrect version of ese.dll. For example, using ese.dll from an Exchange Server 2013 installation to list mailboxes and their subfolders from an Exchange 2010 EDB file can result in the aforementioned problem.
Solution:
To address this issue, ensure that the mounted Exchange database file is utilizing the appropriate and matching version of ese.dll.
